Jon Youngblood - Mariposa Town Talks
Jon Youngblood is a retired Air Force Professional working as an Information Technology Specialist for Yosemite National Park. After his retirement he worked as a Job Development Coach and then back to Vandenberg AFB as a Planner/Scheduler. He later moved to Bakersfield to attend Santa Barbara Business College, taking courses in Network Systems Administration. Working during the day and going to school at night he was able to graduate at the top of his class, along with the honor and opportunity to give the graduation speech. Soon after graduating he was fortunate enough to get an offer to come to Yosemite National Park as an Information Technology Specialist managing the Help Desk. He along with his co-workers were responsible for all calls related to computer activities for Yosemite National Park. He has been called upon to lead and teach basic computer classes to his fellow employees who needed that extra bit of assistance to give them the confidence they need to fully grasp the skills with working with NPS computer equipment. He has faced lots of work related challenges but his biggest was when he lost his lower right leg in April 2012 to Cancer. Within one month of surgery not wanting to let down the Relay for Life weekend in Mariposa, he walked his survivor lap with one leg and a walker. Being a two time Cancer Survivor he stuck with what worked best for him, he focused on his job. Not one to let his park down, he was able to Telework from home until he was able to walk again. His recovery was phenomenal where he was walking and back in the office in several short months. He has been called upon by his doctors and his fellow Relay for Life committee members to guide and speak to others who would benefit from his story. He has won Employee of the month twice with several other awards.
