Hello

My name is Kevin Bowman and I'm the Station Coordinator here at KRYZ and the co-host of Slainte! A traditional and contemporary Celtic music show.

    My Story

I'm one of the co-founders of KRYZ-LPFM 98.5. Myself along with Trudy Williams, Tom Pimentel, Jon Youngblood  and Rachel Oliver, started the then KRYS internet radio station while we waited for our low-power FM license to be approved by the FCC. Unfortunately Tom Pimentel died before he could experience our FM broadcast which came just a few months later. A short time later I met Ron Iudice and together we formed the Mariposa Community Radio organization along with our first board members. We received our FCC construction permit and license and had to change our call sign because KRYS was being used, so we chose KRYZ and off we went.

I'm a retired Computer Specialist from the National Park Service, Yosemite where I spent the last 16 1/2 yrs of my Federal Service. My time at Yosemite was my dream job. Professionally, I was a computer programmer (coder), network administrator and engineer as well as a mainframe computer operator at McClellan AFB. After 11 yrs at McClellan AFB, the base was closed and I was transferred to Hill AFB in Ogden, Utah for 6 months until I was hired at Yosemite NP in April 2000.

Music has always been a big part of my life since hearing my first Chubby Checker song in the 50's on our wonderful Philco radio. In 1963 I was glued to the TV when the Beatles played on Ed Sullivan and it changed my life. Rock 'n' Roll was my magic carpet. In late 1967, I was staying with friends in Haight/Ashbury where I saw Jefferson Airplane, Quick Silver Messenger Service, Grateful Dead and many more. These experiences have shaped and moved me to where I am now - Station Coordinator at KRYZ-LPFM 98.5.
